Our vision is to build an open and Interoperable platform for spatial developers to make use of the best technologies that are available when building their spatial AR apps. This is why we are proud to announce that we have partnered with Microsoft to integrate the ARwayKit with Azure Spatial Anchors. This is our first of many partnerships to come when building the developer infrastructure for the future of spatial computing.

Top layer features of ARwayKit, supported by Robustness of Azure Spatial Anchors

ARwayKit provides out-of-the-box integration with Microsoft’s Azure Spatial Anchors (ASA). This allows the developers to create highly scalable and location persistent AR experiences with ARwayKit using Azure Spatial Anchors' additional power.

Furthermore, we are able to finally start supporting AR Headsets, starting with the Microsoft Hololens (being the most requested device from our developers).

When to use Azure Spatial Anchors?

ARwayKit with Azure (ASA) integration helps to build rich, immersive 3D cross-platform applications and experiences more easily that map, persist, and restore 3D content or points of interest at a real-world scale.

It brings access to the top-layer features of ARwayKit, Robustness, and Scalability of Azure Spatial Anchors (ASA), which most AR applications require to persistently locate AR content with the highest level of location accuracy.

This integration also brings support to deploy apps on AR Headsets, starting with Hololens 1 and Hololens 2.

Benefits of using Azure Spatial Anchors through ARwayKit

Developers now have the choice to use Azure Spatial Anchors (ASA) through ARwayKit in Unity SDK, and they get these benefits while using it through ARwayKit.

Web Studio support: Visualize 3D maps, place and manage AR 3D Content relatively through Web Studio in Real-time, and use Multimap localization in ASA for large-scale environments.

Interoperable: Developers now have the choice to choose the underlying Mapping service, and ARwayKit services work seamlessly with both mapping services (ARWAY and ASA).

Robustness: ASA comes with the robustness of Microsoft’s Mixed Reality platform, so the map persists across seasons, viewports, and changing lighting conditions.

AR Headset support: ASA integration with ARwayKit comes with out-of-the-box support for the Hololens, so now developers can map, create and restore 3D AR content directly from Hololens.

Significance of integration Azure Spatial Anchors

ARwayKit brings top layer features to existing Mapping SDKs such as ASA; this brings ease of use in developing and managing location AR apps through a single toolkit and gives developers a choice in Mapping service according to their use-case and makes AR mapping data more interoperable.
